It does not look like ID Software will be bringing the master server back online. Fortunately, we have come up with a fix to this problem so you can see servers in the game browser again!
For Windows users follow the steps below:
- Click Start - Run
- Type notepad C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and Press OK.
- Scroll to the bottom of the hosts file and add the following lin: 216.86.155.165 master.quake3arena.com
- Save the file and close notepad.
- You can now see server in the quake3 browser!
For Linux / Mac:
- Open up a shell prompt.
- As root, type nano /etc/hosts
- Add 216.86.155.165 master.quake3arena.com to the bottom of the hosts file.
- Save and close the file.
Players can manually connect to the CROM servers via the q3 console by issuing any one of the commands below:
- /connect 3w.cromctf.com
- /connect ctf.cromctf.com
- /connect freeze.cromctf.com
- /connect ffa.cromctf.com
- /connect ra3.cromctf.com
Server admins can broadcast their servers to the master by adding sv_master2 "master.cromctf.com" to the server configuration file.
Update: The master server is back up and operational. master.cromctf.com will remain up for those that want to use it.
Enjoy!
